Surgical Procedure Techniques
Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery
This approach to surgery has revolutionized the way weight loss procedures are performed. Unlike open surgery, laparoscopic surgery requires only a few incisions in the abdomen. Specialized instruments are inserted into the body through passageways called trocars. As the surgery is performed, the surgeon and team view the procedure with a camera that has also be inserted through one of the trocars. The laparoscopic surgical technique has dramatically cut down on the length of the surgery, the amount of recovery time and the risk of complications.
Endoscopic Procedures
With the StomaphyX procedure, an endoscopic device is used. This is a tube-shaped tool equipped with a camera and several sophisticated attachments which is introduced to the body through the mouth. Because this method requires no incisions, it is safer than many types of surgery.
